In a new review, Emme Hall, auto writer for CNET's Roadshow, says the new 2017 Mercedes-AMG GLC43, handles high speeds like a champ, after testing the performance-tuned luxury SUV one afternoon on the Autobahn in Germany.
The GLC43 is the performance version of the regular Mercedes-Benz GLC300, and features a twin-turbo V6 that produces 362 horsepower. The cabin has leather-upholstered sport seats with contrast stitching, and Mercedes' Comand infotainment system, with an 8.4-inch color display, optional digital radio, navigation with traffic information and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
In terms of handling, the AMG GLC43's 4Matic all-wheel-drive system shifts 69 percent of the torque to the rear wheels by default, for a more sports car-like drive, but shifts torque based on wheel slip for wet roads and snow. Roadshow's Hall notes that the ride and steering firm up in Sport and Sport Plus modes, but is far from harsh. The steering has a good weight to it and the wheel feels thick and sturdy.
The nine-speed automatic transmission shifts super-fast and skipped gears on the downshift as Hall steered into a sharp turn. A simple brake, steer and accelerate action - along with 384 pound-feet of torque - pulled the SUV through nicely. Paddle shifters are standard and there for the using if you'd like more control.
